I still play CoD1 from time to time, it's actually pretty well played online, compared to some of the newer games. It's an amazing game, it's exactly what a game should be: Mission, shoot lots, win, none of this fancy bullshit in the newer games. It also cost me £10 and I played it for 1,500+ hours (online), I played CoD4 for 2 hours.

I would just like to say that a company named Spark came up with the idea of the Call of Duty games. They made the first one for console and Infinity Ward made it for PC but Activision chose IW instead of Spark to continue to make the COD games.

Basically, I think Activision's marketing division are a bunch of ****heads, but I suspect MW2 will have a story as poignant as MW1. IW has always evoked feelings in the player, whether it was (as you mention) getting shoved weaponless up the bank at Stalingrad, while Commissars shoot deserters behind you and your friends get mowed down in front of you... or when you were forcefully disavowed of the "invincibility" you feel as a videogame player when they nuked you, forcing you to stumble hopelessly around in MW1. While I've not watched the video (saving the scene for when I play it!), I expect the terrorist scene from MW2 should prove just as meaningful.

All that said, their marketing team and PR people have continually disappointed me.

I actually disagree (respectfully of course). To say that Call of Duty showed the whole concept of "War is Hell" to a stunning caliber is true, but to say Modern Warfare has missed the mark isn't fair. It's a whole new message, it's a whole new concept, war is no longer hell, Modern Warfare's message has been and continues to be... War is meaningless, it's a game of pawns being pinned against each other. The ideology of the nation is garbage that Countries use to prop up their people to fight. Don't forget the nuke dropped in MW1 or the new civilian airport massacre of MW2? These things are there to make you step back and say, why? What is this all for? Who is benefiting? Not our troops who we shamelessly send to die and then if the other side doesn't do the job for us we'll finish it by nuking them from the sky. It's a much different message for a much different time.

I don't know how any one could not like this game. And I don't think it was ever an underdog.

You cant compare WW2 to war that happens nowadays because it isnt even war, its anti-terrorism. and the glorification of the "kill", sad but true, is exactly what it is from actual footage i've seen. It may not be right, but it is there, but it doesnt mean that "heart" wasnt put into this. This article just seems biased to me, i dont know if you just have it out for this game since its the most anticipated game of the year.

thusguy, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about... since you havent even played mw1, which is so far the best 1st person shooter out there... this game will revolutionize all of the shooting genre. do yourself a favor and go play it before you start posting retarded nonsense and making yourself look like a douchebag. MW2!!!!!!

COD was a tired and old topic at the time it came out... there were a lot of games and movies at the time relating to WWII, and adding the fact that it ran on the q3 engine and that most of the story was copied directly from movies made it even less interesting. The improvement of the graphics is anything but amazing, they never added anything new or inspiring. And the computer AI still sucks!
